Yes, we are still upgrading Bennett Park. The existing playspace and learn-to-ride loop will be replaced with a new mixed recreation space.

We are currently working on a revised design which will include:

• replacing the existing playspace with a new and larger playspace with equipment for children of all ages to enjoy.
• a new mini pump track with beginner and intermediate features.
• new pathways, seating, shade, tree planting and landscaping.

The new design concept is expected to be shared with the community in mid-2025.

A new mini pump track is being included in the revised design for Bennett Park, however it isn’t possible to include a skate park within the project budget.

Council currently has no plans to build a skate park in a different location in St Marys. However, we’ve recently opened the Gipps Street Recreation Precinct just a few kilometres away which features a large youth zone with a skate park, pump track, parkour, multi-sport courts, and plenty more.

Construction will begin in 2026.

Council needed to undertake additional site investigations in Bennett Park which took some time.

These investigations determined that some of the features proposed in the design concept would not be possible within the project budget due to site remediation costs. Council made the decision to revise the design.

This project was identified in Council's Sport and Recreation Strategy, which is a 15-year road map for the future provision of sport, play, recreation and open space facilities across our City.
