The annual Penrith Mayoral Challenge program invites young people to co-design a new playspace within their community.
Each year, the Mayor challenges a group of school students to design a new playspace that is inclusive and reflects the unique needs of their community. Participants learn a range of skills through the process, including how to be leaders in their community, collaborate and how to design spaces that are welcoming for all.
A group of talented young students from Llandilo Public School worked with Council to co-design a new playspace for Wilson Park through the Penrith Mayoral Challenge. It includes:
- climbing equipment, a multi-play unit with slide, and three bay swing set with an accessible swing.
- revitalised multi-sport court.
- variety of outdoor fitness equipment.
- picnic table, hammock, bin, shade sails, bike racks, pathways, trees and landscaping.
The new playspace was officially opened in December 2023.
An amenities building was completed in early 2024. It includes a unisex toilet and unisex ambulant toilet with baby change tables, and a MLAK-fitted unisex accessible toilet.
