High river levels delay completion

The Nepean River levels are still too high for work to resume.

The completion of the new kayak launch deck at Leonay has unfortunately been delayed due to several significant rain events which required Warragamba Dam to release excess water for safety reasons.

We experienced heavy rainfalls in July and again in August. Each time, the Nepean River rises and the takes time to recede. When the river exceeds safe levels, work must pause until conditions improve.

Currently, the river is sitting at 1.44 metres, and construction can only resume once the water level drops to 1.05 metres. The good news is that water levels are steadily receding and work is expected to recommence in the coming weeks. Once construction resumes, only one week of work remains before the launch deck is complete.

We will continue to provide updates on progress as the Nepean River levels fall and work resumes. We look forward to finishing the launch deck soon for the community to use and enjoy.
