Allen Place laneway, between Station Street and Gaymark Lane in Penrith CBD, has been given a much-needed facelift as part of the City Park project.

The laneway has been widened to improve the flow of vehicular traffic through the City Centre. It will continue to operate as a one-way traffic lane until City Park opens at the end of the year, when it will become a two-way traffic lane.

The refurbishment also includes a paved footpath, vehicle loading bay area, mountable kerb, garden beds, tree planting, and the installation of raised pedestrian thresholds to lead people safely from High Street into City Park once complete.

Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the improvements to Allen Place laneway will provide a welcoming and seamless connection between City Park and High Street.

“People will be encouraged to venture both into City Park from High Street, and from the park into our local shops, restaurants, bars, and cafés,” Cr Carney said.

“The laneway also features removable traffic bollards so it can be closed off and utilised for special events held in City Park in the future.”

The revitalisation of Allen Place laneway marks the latest milestone in the City Park project, following the recent completion of the 78-metre sunken rain garden and footpath and kerb works on Henry and Station Streets.

The amenities building with green roof, pergolas, and water features are under construction. A central lawn, public artwork, seating, and more trees and plants, will be installed in the coming months.

This project is proudly funded by Penrith City Council and the NSW Government through the Public Spaces Legacy Program.

The NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program is an investment in high quality public open space. Together with the NSW Government, Council is delivering vital infrastructure for communities to love the place they live. The NSW Government is contributing $4 million to the City Park project.
