Council starts work on 78-metre sunken rain garden and water features

12 April 2023

Work has commenced on a 78-metre sunken rain garden in Penrith’s City Park, which will run along the Henry Street side of the park.

The garden will significantly boost tree canopy and greenery in the CBD to create a cool oasis with a mix of native trees, shrubs, and plants. It is designed to capture rainfall and other water runoff, which will irrigate the garden and help to reduce water waste.

Pedestrian bridges over the garden are being installed to provide entry to and from the park.

A five-metre-wide circular water feature, three cascading pools with a connecting stream, and fog fountains to refresh those enjoying the park during the warmer months, are also under construction.

Footpath and kerb works are continuing on the corner of Henry Street and Station Street. Pedestrian detours will remain in place throughout the works.
