Walk on Country

28 August 2023

We're working to update the Our River Master Plan and a vital part of this process is engaging with First Nations peoples.

Recently we participated in a Walk on Country guided by traditional owners and custodians, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and key stakeholders.

This event allowed Council to experience and appreciate First Nations peoples ongoing connection and stewardship of the Nepean River and their unique understanding of its culturally significant landscape.

This deep listening session reflects Council’s commitment to recognising First Nations peoples rich culture and heritage and meaningfully embedding this into future planning at the Nepean River.

Some opportunities to be explored in the updated Master Plan include identifying culturally significant sites, signage and wayfinding, cultural activations and place-making, and building on partnerships with stakeholders and community.

The updated Master Plan will be on exhibition for public feedback in mid-2024.
