The Local Housing Strategy (LHS) has been established to guide housing change and manage population growth in Penrith City over a period of 20 years, from 2016 to 2036. One of the key components of the Strategy is its establishment of a Housing Vision and associated set of objectives. The Strategy considers four broad themes, namely, housing location; housing diversity; housing affordability; and housing design, character and resilience.
A revision of the Local Housing Strategy was prepared and exhibited in 2022 to build on recent government plans and investments for our City, and provide a strategic approach to managing housing and population growth. An earlier draft of the Local Housing Strategy was exhibited with the Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) in late 2019.
The Local Housing Strategy forms one component of the Places of Penrith strategic planning framework, which will establish the vision and directions for the Penrith Local Government Area (LGA).
Council sought the community’s views on the draft Local Housing Strategy. The Strategy was publicly exhibited for a period of six (6) weeks between 5 April and 17 May 2022. The consultation period has now been concluded.
The Local Housing Strategy was adopted by Penrith City Council at the Ordinary Meeting on 22 August 2022.
