1. Council is developing a list of Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) who have the knowledge, ability and interest to participate in community and stakeholder engagement on projects regarding Aboriginal cultural heritage. By becoming a Registered Aboriginal Party, Council may consult you to determine the significance of Aboriginal heritage elements both tangible and intangible. This consultation approach is in line with the Aboriginal cultural heritage consultation requirements for proponents 2010 as part of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. Furthermore, proponents and consultants external to Council that are undertaking similar work may also request a copy of the Registered Aboriginal Parties list. Proponents and consultants may contact you to offer an invitation to participate in their projects such as: Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permits, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports as well as specific facility, site and precinct studies and plans.

Council is undertaking a review of the Statement of Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (Statement). The Statement engagement will involve participation in a 90-minute, face to face workshop with other Registered Aboriginal Parties. The purpose of this workshop is for Registered Aboriginal Parties to provide input into the review of the Statement and advise on relevant Aboriginal cultural heritage matters specific to Penrith such as but not limited to; appropriate use of Aboriginal language(s), understanding of language group and clan group boundaries.
