The NSW Office of Local Government has released a new 2025 Model Code of Meeting Practice (Model Code) for Local Councils in NSW. The Model Code applies to all meetings of Councils and Committees of Councils of which all members are councillors.
Councils must adopt a Code of Meeting Practice that contains the Model Code’s mandatory provisions and may include the Model Code’s other non-mandatory provisions at its discretion. Councils are permitted to add other supplementary provisions provided they are not inconsistent with the mandatory provisions of the Model Code.
At its Ordinary Meeting on 8 December 2025, Council resolved to place its draft Code of Meeting Practice (draft Meeting Code) on public exhibition for feedback. The draft Meeting Code will be on public exhibition from 10 December 2025 to 21 January 2026.
